Here is a thought - how about posting a link to each topic in here on twitter as I post them, and make this forum visible ( but no posting allowed) to guests and to google - that might generate extra traffic for the forum and persuade some more to sign up.

That does sound like a good idea PP. Could put a sticky at the top saying if they want their details in here they can tweet/email or whatever.

Would the resident girls also benefit from a similar section?

Yes it would show your name if you posted in the section, but not if you dont. Not sure there's a way round that one tbh.

Correct - there isn't a way around that - but hey - thats why we all use nicknames!!!!

You could alter the permissions on the section so that only admins etc, and myself, could post in it, but I think that would be counterproductive to reviews and recommendations

It would only be the one forum - I would never want the whole lot viewable

And lets face it - anyone can join and see the names of posters and all their posts anyway!

This would get people clicking to see the links, viewing the topic, and more likely to join

I agree with you PP. The current settings do stop us using twitter to market the site effectively, ppl can't see if it is worth joining and so I assume some or a lot don't bother.

An open section is a good half way house IMO.
